Zero Day Overview
A zero-day (also known as zero-hour or 0-day or day zero) vulnerability is an undisclosed computer-software
vulnerability that hackers can exploit to adversely affect computer programs, data, additional computers or a network.
When the software vendor develops and distributes a fix, or anti-virus companies blacklist the malware exploiting a it, the “zero-day vulnerability window” is effectively closed.
Due to the sheer volume of new vulnerabilities being found and new malware exploiting them that is being constantly created by hackers, there is a significant delay in closing the “zero-day vulnerability windows”. The legacy black-list approach to protecting from malware has become a perverse cat and mouse game between hackers and cybersecurity companies.
Introducing FinalAV Security
FinalAV Security’s new security framework has been designed to deal effectively with zero day vulnerabilities.
Otherwise, non-authenticated software runs under a very fine grained real-time sandbox (at kernel API level) allowing software to run unmodified. This means that rather than blocking known malware, FinalAV Security “sandboxes” any software application which is not digitally signed by its developers. There is no need to previously identify any new malware. This effectively ends the current cat and mouse game between cybersecurity companies and hackers.
FinalAV Security ensures the chain of execution, including dynamically loaded modules, are all authorised before giving full rights (i.e. no weak link policy). As such, even if an operating system has an unresolved vulnerability, FinalAV Security will still provide full protection by “sandboxing” dynamically injected unknown malware.
